#17 is David Gurzhiev, a photographer whom long-time readers, especially, should be very familiar with by now. David has served as The Angel’s in-house photographer since its inception and is responsible for the beautiful work in countless profiles and features, including Tomatopalooza, fishing for ike-jime tuna, and Larry Finkelstein’s rugelach. David is originally from Colorado, and has spent his adult life living and working between home, New York, and Los Angeles. His work, which is documentarian in nature, spans fine art photography, editorial, and commercial. David is particularly brilliant at making portraits and still lives. He’s also, fun fact, my husband. Here’s David with his Plugs.
Restaurant — Frankies 457 Spuntino
If I’m going to a restaurant, Frankies is the kind of place I always want to be in. A well-lit interior that’s full of character, capable bartenders, good bathroom, great food, great service, and The Franks at the helm, co-captaining the ship. They’re the kind of guys I admire, hospitable in a way I’ve only felt from my family. They care about everything and do it all the right way. They make my favorite sandwiches I’ve ever had, and I can go for lunch and dinner multiple times a week and not end up in a coma. Also, we had our wedding there, and they made it the best wedding I’ve ever been to, so….
