Plugs is The Angel’s recs column. Every week, you’ll get six picks—a restaurant, a bar, a shop, an ingredient, a person, and a treat—from someone in Los Angeles who knows what they’re talking about. (Plugs are for paid subscribers of The Angel only. However, if you’re in the restaurant industry and want a free subscription, hit me up. :))

#25 is Kate Ludwig of Bite Sized, the newsletter for east-leaning happenings in the L.A. food world. Kate is also a freelance marketer, consultant, and creative producer. She does product launch activations, market curation, and dinner party planning, and she’s been in your inbox on behalf of brands like MATE the Label, Whimsy + Row, and Shoppe Amber Interiors. She has a lot of ideas and owns a set of walkie talkies. Above all: with her witty insights, @kactus.jpg is quickly becoming a vital voice in the local restaurant scene. Here are her Plugs!

Restaurant — Baby Bistro

The former pop-up, soon-to-be restaurant by chef Miles Thompson and Andy Schwartz. I love a spot that encourages you to fire the menu. I still think about the miso toast. The barber shop space at Hotel Normandie was impractical and temporary, but it was the most charming wabi-sabi space I’ve been to since Mh Zh. Checker floors, wine bottles on ice in the sink… It felt like one big dinner party. I haven’t been able to go to BB’s last three pop-ups. I guess I’m holding out for the Alpine opening.
